Biography
After studying counterpoint, harmony, fugue and viola along with singing, Frederic Ligier was awarded an Analysis Prize at the Paris National Music Conservatory and a Gold Medal in composition at the Montreuil National Music School. Besides he has got the French Agregation (Ph.D) for music teaching. He has also studied conducting with Mr E. Schelle and P. Dulat.
Frederic Ligier is a regular guest composer at music schools around the world where he organized and leads improvisation training courses too. His scores – among which several state commissions – have been performed in France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, India and Afghanistan.
His passion for the theatre and his research on language have led him to collaborate with numerous stage and film directors, either to write for stage music or to train actors on music :

Frederic Ligier has conducted several operas: Haydn’s Lo Speziale, Haendel’s Acis & Galatea, Strauss’ Die Fledermaus (The Bat), Offenbach’s La Vie Parisienne, Donizetti’s La Favorita, L. Manuel’s Le Fakir de Bénarès (a French-Indian project).
He regularly performs in France and has conducted works in Israel, Palestine, India and Jordan.
Since 1996, Frederic Ligier is teaching at Rennes 2 University (Composition, improvisation).
In 2005 he has been invited in Tokyo by the Japan Foundation as composer in residence.
